The EU INTERSAFE Project: Safety at intersections

INTERSAFE is researching the potential for integrated, preventative safety systems for avoiding accidents at intersections. The causes of such accidents very often lie in the car driver’s inadequate overview of the situation and in misinterpretations of other road users’ intentions.

The development of laser and video sensor systems and special algorithms hereby enables the exact localisation of your own vehicle as well as a prediction of the movements of other road users. Combined with the intersection information of the ACTROS control devices from Signalbau Huber, which can communicate directly with the vehicle, this technology provides an early warning system for the driver in dangerous situations.

Signalbau Huber is the supplier of the traffic management competence in this project. The effectiveness of this safety system is being analysed in a realistic environment on the test sites of leading car manufacturers and at a public intersection in Wolfsburg. INTERSAFE is a sub-project of PReVENT, a part of the 6th Framework Program of the European Commission.

DELIOS (Decentral System Structure of Traffic Lights Systems on the Basis of the Optical Registration of Traffic Data and a Traffic Volume-Dependent Control System)

Due to our cooperation on the DELIOS project, supported by the Berlin Senate, Signalbau Huber is carrying out in-the-field research on the newest future-oriented technologies for collecting traffic data through video detection.

 

The intended network of innovative transmission and control technologies is creating the technical prerequisites for the future management of urban and regional traffic flows.

In addition to the decentralised control of traffic nodes, DELIOS is making a sensible contribution to the work of many municipalities in the area of centrally influencing traffic. The development of DELIOS is to be understood as a component and system-related takeover of established technology.
