Stuttgart Public Transport Priority U7

Extension of city railway U7 with traffic technology from Signalbau Huber

In 2000, the region of Ostfildern has been directly connected to the railway network of the City of Stuttgart by means of an extension of 6.3 km. Signalbau Huber has supplied the comprehensive traffic technology equipment for railroad crossings and intersections in this project.

Normal railroad crossings as well as large-scale intersections of the L 1200 and L 1192 have been integrated into the route of the city railway. Altogether 14 traffic controllers for traffic lights control have come into operation. In dependence of the city railway's schedule and the traffic volume, the controllers calculate the adequate traffic signaling.

Sensors and detectors on the road determine the data for traffic-dependent operation. Top priority is of course given to the city railway, but also buses can be given priority against individual traffic. This implemented priority system for city railway and bus further increases the attractiveness of public transport.

The modules of the traffic lights are equipped with LED technology. Beside lower energy consumption, this significantly improves the visibility of the signal even in case of direct sunlight - another important contribution to road safety.
